Well after a very slow and snowy bus ride to the airport, de-icing of the plane and one of our mates missing their flight we eventually arrived in Hong Kong! We picked up our Octopus travel cards and jumped on the express train into central hong kong. The train only took 24 mins and it was nice hearing the british accent on the train speaker! Alan and Lorraine were there to meet us at Hong Kong station and took us around to get the free shuttle bus to their apartment! Unfortunetely the weather had cooled down alot although it was still at least 20 degress warmer than korea!! So no complaints from us. One of the 1st amazing buildings we saw was the one that Batman jumps off in the Dark Knight- he's a brave bat! The road to Repulse Bay was winding along the side of a mountain and Michelle was freakin out a bit being on the british side of the road haha! The views on the way were amazing and we were all blown away when we saw where we were gonna be spending the next few days. Waking up to a beach view is not too shabby! The 1st exciting thing about being in their apartment was being given a glass of Ribena and a rich tea biscuit! RIBENA! ASSAAAAAH! So happy! After unpacking, Alan and Lorraine showed us around the complex....everything you need really!! I was excited to learn that the supermarket had HP Brown sauce! After a good nose around and getting freaked out by seeing sooo many foreigners we headed for some grub in the pub on the complex.
After a yummy dinner we left Alan and Lorraine to some peace and quiet and we headed into the Night Market in Kowloon on the mainland. Let the haggling begin!! Me being a dumbass forgot about the haggling on my 1st purchase, but ofcourse as you all know me well there were many purchases to follow so I made up for it! I could have spent hours there!! It's all just STUFF, but amazing! All the wee stall owners spoke English, unlike in Korea. All the haggling gets a bit confusing though because they give you a price like 100 HKD, but thats only a tenner, but in your head it sounds sooo expensive haha! After ALOT of shopping we took a break and had some sweet and sour chicken and spring rolls, once again I chose Ribena over anthing else! Wierd the things you miss!! We all slept like a baby that night enjoying the big comfy beds!!
On Sunday morning we woke to a diningroom table filled with goodies for breakfast!! Lorraine is an angel! We all felt very dignified sitting around the dining room table instead of perched on the end of our bed scoffing down a bowl of cereal before school haha! We didnt budge for about an hour! After breaky and a can of Irn Bru to start the day (hehe) we headed into Central with Lorraine to the shops. We were all very excited about seeing a Marks & Spencers, H&M, HMV and Nine West! Liz spent about an hour and a half in the underwear section of M&S and had to be physically removed before she spent anymore money! We then went onto H&M, Mum will know approx how long was spent in here!! haha! Just doing our bit for the Hong Kong economy!! Possibly the 1st time in 10 months that ive forgot about lunch haha! We ended up having a late lunch in an Ozzy bar, steak sandwich and the best nachos ever!! Possibly gained about a stone in the 1st 2 days! lol!
That night we headed to The Peak, the amazing view over Hong Kong Island! Just as amazing as the view from The Empire State but very different!! Hong Kong is built on so many levels so the view is unbelievable! Leaving the Peak was the most fun, you take the Tram down the mountain, I dont mean around the mountain, DOWN the mountain, very strange feeling like being on a rollercoaster but going slow obviously! Sorry wierd comparison! Afterwards we had a yummy dinner at the Jade Garden at Causewaybay.
