He says- Istanbul is definitely worth a visit if you're able - the photo I used for this post is actually of the country of Jordan (this computer is weird and won't let me upload photos). The last two days here have been filled with fresh sights and sounds. With a population of around 20-million, this metropolis is a busy city centre full of history and is easy to explore. As I mentioned in my lost post, Shauna has been suffering from a severe ear infection, to the point where she stayed in bed yesterday and said it's the worst pain she's ever felt. I booked her a doctor's appointment for today at 1130 am (the hotel we're staying at - Hilton Doubletree - were very helpful making sure the we got to see an ear specialist asap and successfully broke down the language barrier). Upon Shauna telling the doctor that her ear was infected he looked at it and said, "very bad". He was really nice and spoke only a little English, but luckily ear infection treatment is pretty universal so he was able to prescribe some anti-biotics and placed some ointment laced gauze in her ear to make her better. The gauze has to stay in her ear for 24 hours before being removed (lovely), but she was able to gather the energy to go on a hop-on, hop-off bus tour (aka ho-ho tour) of the city today. The excitement of the day included when we got out of the cab to check out the Blue Mosque and buy our tour tickets I was holding a giant bottle of water, within a split second the water bottle was launched out of my hands and onto the ground. The culprit was a passing car's passenger side mirror which hit my hand and the bottle. All this to say, I technically got hit by a car in Turkey. The tour was great and we got to see a lot of the city. We had lunch at the cafe of the Museum of Modern Art which overlooks the city - the view and the food were amazing. We got to cross the famous Bosphorus bridge which takes you to the Asian side of Istanbul, and back to the European side. Pretty cool stuff. After the tour we were pretty tired so we decided to check out a movie a theatre near our hotel. The only English movies that were playing were Larry Crowne and Transformers, so we picked the former. It was playing in "auditorium 6" so we went down and looked for the sign. When we got there and opened up the doors of the "theatre" it was smelled like a fresh crate full of mothballs and was the size of a broom closet. It was pretty hilariously brutal - we couldn't take the smell so we ended up leaving. So Larry Crowne really did stink (hilarious joke). We also checked out the Grand Bizarre which has pretty convincing knock-off clothing from every single major brand and enough jewellry to make Joan Rivers blush. We haven't really been shopping on the trip because we have no room in our bags - this has definitely been a good thing. Tomorrow we leave for the Turkish coastal city of Antalya for six nights of resort living. Life is rough.

Aunt lisa Just read over your last two entries! Can't believe how full and exciting your days are (despite colds, burns, monkey bites, ear aches not to mention ailments of the "time traveller"). Sure hope you get to track down the ice cream man in Istanbul! Looking forward to the next entry...hard to believe we will be in Turkey two weeks from today.
