Had a good nights sleep and decided to have a swim and not have the expensive hotel breakfast. The hotel pool was very good but by 10.30 we were getting a bit hungry. We took the hotel shuttle bus into the centre of town and decided to eat at a local outside cafe/shanty type place. Joke meal number one. The guy, although young, did not speak a word of English nor did he understand my sign language. On a large picture over his head was a picture of a "traditional breakfast" consisting of 2 eggs, toast, tea or coffee. When we eventually got the message through to him this is what arrived.
3 Pyrex cups with 1/4" of evaporated milk in the bottom topped up with some indescribable brown liquid. ( like drinking syrup) then 2 huge plastic beakers containing hot water and eggs- still in shells. I guess if we had left them about a week they may have cooked. The toast had some sweet stuff on - probably honey. All served on cheap plastic vintage saucers. Different.
Went on a night safari to the zoo which was very good. Set in a huge area of rainforest with the animals running free. We went on a long tour by open tram through the forest stopping off to walk the leopard trail. Close encounters with a very noisy male lion and a dancing bill elephant. Many animals so close you could touch them (not Catherine!)
