First leg of trans-siberian train- day 5-9 (29 Aug-2 Sep):
On Saturday we boarded the train at Moscow to start our epic journey on the famous railway- travelling through 5 time zones and a total of 5000 miles. The first leg, Moscow to Irkuskt was 4 nights. We settled into our tiny but adequate 4 berth compartment- daddy, stevie, me and our russian pal Igor!
I was apprehensive about the journey, 4 nights with no shower, living off noodles in a confined space...but i actually really enjoyed it. The time passed quickly and was spent chatting, drinking vodka (stevie never wants to touch it again!), reading, sleeping, eating and watching the vast flat land of russia pass by. On day 2 we passed from Europe into Asia- through Siberia.
The provonistas (carriage attendants) were as scary as legend has it and we couldnt even get a smile from them. Dad and Steve both have stories to tell- in short, dad got accused of stealing a tea towel, and steve got hit for laughing! I was as good as gold as usual!
The only thing we all found difficult was the disgusting toilets which you couldnt wash in- we really needed a shower by the time we disembarked!
