Up at 8am had such a good sleep. Beatrice in our room from Canada suggested the room go on the all day tour around Mandalay which we all thought was a good idea so we had some breakfast at the hostel which is literally all you can eat if you say you want no more toast, the staff look disappointed if you want no more coffee the same so from now on we are just gonna stuff ourselves as we feel bad for them ha! So in our tour bus is me, Bas, Beatrice, Jess from the states, Flora from Holland (oooo Dutch friend for Bas) and Basma from the UK in a different room but same hostel. All got on instantly which was cool first place we went to was Mahagandaryon Monastery which had some cool temples and then we went to see the monks having lunch at 10.15am which sounds like nothing but when you have hundreds of monks all lined up with their tubs for food it is mental! Spoke to a few monks who spoke English and answered our million questions about Buddhism. Just like school assembly waiting to go in. From there we went to a proper shrine temple where Buddhists come in daily to pray to the buddha statues within. Looks incredible I am 110% atheist I am not gonna lie my only God's are David Beckham and Ryan Giggs so to see everyone come in, get in the zone go on their mat and pray or say 5 minutes is seriously something different! There seemed to be a ceremony going on as well lots of women all dressed up and kids all Buddhist'd up we couldn't see where they were going but presumed a wedding at the time. From there we climbed about a million steps to several temples seriously up high felt like I'd done 8 hours straight of RPM my legs were in bits but the viewpoints were amazing so many pictures and videos from it all. Statues were quality as well how they are built is amazing. So precise in detail. A couple more pagodas to go so this bus driver would drop us off, stay in the bar till we got back then take us to the next place fair play to him as we were gone hours at a time! Stopped for lunch in this little cafe by the river had some noodles and then we got a little boat to a island about a minute away called Ava. Here we got on horse and carts and went round all the pagodas and shrines on the island. Another world here a massive eye opener and made me realise a) how good we have got it at home and to never moan about a thing and b) stop being a lazy s*** at home at times some of the people I have seen haven't got a pot to piss in, live outside and rely on the natural crops for food, shower in the river, s*** in the fields, 2 kids were having a game of throwing a elastic band to each other. The faces on kids when they seen us was nice they would run with the cart with us and some of the shrines here are pretty cool as well but a very very poor part of Myanmar not that there are many rich parts to Mandalay. After that we went to see the sunset on the bridge, had a beer and chilled real long day but so good! Everyone back at the hostel, me and Bas went to a restaurant for food as was starving and now just chilling in our room. Wrote more about Myanmar than any other day on my blog I think and only been here 2 days! Amazing place!
