While we stayed in Madrid, we visited warm and sunny Segovia. On our visit we went to see the Roman aqueduct and Alcazar catsle. The aqueduct is 100ft. high and 19 miles long. The Romans built the aqueduct with a 1 degree grade so that the it was on just the right angle and the water would flow. On the bottom of the aqueduct there is sand which purifys the water while it churns through the aqueduct. It is built with incredible engineering. Also, we visited Alcazar castle. Alcazar castle was used for several things including - a home for the King and Queen of Spain, a prison and the army war college (where they taught soldiers the art of using cannons). In the 1800s a significant amount of the catsle and its treasures were destroyed in a fire. While the castle was later rebuilt the treasures are gone forever!
