Home to Luton
2.15am alarm, snooze, 2.25am alarm, snooze. 2.30am s*** better get up. Usual pre holiday rushing about. Shave, shower, cases in the car, 1001 electric sockets turned off, bleach in the toilet.
3.05am. Leave home in car. 3.06am. Stop car at end of road as shaky wants to log into his satnav and can't remember his log in details. 3.10am. Still sat in car with an ever increasingly irate shaky. 3.11am. Set off in car with alternative sat nav.
Trowell services is our first break. Worst services on the m1. Nothing open and manned solely by one weird chap who looked like Harry potter in 20 years. Wouldn't like to see him cope with rush hour as there's just me and shaky and he's struggling. Costa and a toastie to wake us up and keep us going. Remind myself to remortgage the house when we return to cover the cost of the toastie and coffee. Best set off as still 80 miles from Luton, traffic getting heavier and check in opens in an hour.
Lots of traffic now. I'm trying to keep calm and shaky is getting mad at the volume of white vans on the motorway, that and the 50mph limits.
6.18am arrive at air park. Just missed a bus. b******s! Next one at 6.40am and check in closes at 7.05am. The bus takes 13 minutes. Lots of "I knew we should have got the meet n greet service" from shaky. Bus drops us off at the most inconvenient place, with a maze of walkways zig zagging just to get us to the terminal.
One long queue for easyjet and two desks open. Not getting to the front of this b***** til tomorrow. I go running off to customer service but we are shouted to the front for speedy check in. Result!!
Off to departure gate now. Security checks! Oh god, in my haste last night was my lipsyl put in my case or hand luggage. Sod it, I'll take my chances. "PLEASE REMOVE ALL JACKETS, BOOTS, BELTS AND PLACE THEM IN THE TRAY". So basically this man wants me to undress and dress again in the 7 minutes before our gate shuts.
7.20am. Arrive at gate. Take off is 7.45am. Huge queue to get on the plane. Shaky strides confidently up the empty speedy boarding lane. I'm thinking "I'd never pay for that". But it would seem I have. Another result!
7.24am. Board plane. Front seats. Loads of legroom. My blood pressure is getting back to normal. Let's see what iceland has to offer.
