A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
My week in Kelowna; pretty damn comfortable. Stayed in Kelowna international hostel, this place seems chilled as.
The music, the people, the instruments and the pure vibe.
I wasn't doing much while in sun peaks last week, and Kelowna isn't much different. I mean theres more Places to spend your minimal cash but its nowhere near as big and crazy as vancouver though.
Here everyone is watching there laptops laughing to themselves or having mini feasts together. They try to organize group gatherings but when your this relaxed who can be bothered moving.
It's not a bad thing and I'm sure it's not always like this, coming from a hectic summer of sun and water sports, all they want to do is settle and take a breath before the snow kicks in and more tourists start passing through town.
I definitely didn't pick the right month for this place either, but hey I can always come back in the summer time.
What KIH have to offer though is plenty of art work, maps and pictures from all over the world, quotes on the walls and these little take away cards, with sayings like "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"
Great enthusiasm! This quote was also on a little ornament that I bought from a souvenir shop in sun peaks. Lucky I'm taking this quote home too.
I've spent some days strolling the beautiful empty parks and wondering the "city" to find myself back at the hostel having more fun talking to people in depth.
I built my first snowman with a Korean guy who simply doesn't stop smiling. He has incredible taste in music and Has a few quotes that never seem to get old. he is also the one to bring out the BB to get everyone drinking and drunk. (a 'BB' is an object in which I cannot name, otherwise I will have to do one)...think beer in a funnel...
Rules of the 'BB'
-no calling it by the correct name
-no right hand
(otherwise "BUFFALO" you have to do another)
It seems every hostel has alcoholic games to get you in the wrong frame of mind, but we're all at that point of life where drinking and travelling is part of our adventure. Maybe drinking excessive amounts of booze in a short amount of time wasn't the best idea as the movement of the bunk bed didn't sit well... Lucky for me people were kind enough to look after others and assist when needed :) cheers fellas!
I spent 4 nights in a room with a Japanese girl and seemed to look 10 years younger then what she was. she didn't like it though, made her feel like a little girl. She was also a Buddhist, i loved that she had something to make her feel a part of something else . I did feel a bit awkward getting out of bed some mornings though because i didnt want to interrupt her praying on her top bunk. Seems Japanese are all so polite and say Thank you, your very welcome and Sorry purely for something so small. I think that's a beautiful moral to have and more people should be so kind.
I've also come to realize that Canadians are very much pedestrian orientated, when you cross to the middle if the road, people on both aides just stop to let you go. Slightly feel bad for making them come to a halt through there general driving duties but its nice take also have that security when looking left right left and right again 10 times before you still don't realize which way they are coming from. Thanks left hand drivers!
I'm off to phase #4 tomorrow, Nelson... I have no idea what's in that place but everyone seems to love the hippie vibe there. I think ill enjoy it
