Sara's Travels
In school right now. Sick, very sick. blah. Went to the indigenous market, Otavalo this weekend. Bought a lot of pretty things I didn't need and saw whole guinea pigs roasting on skewers. Nice. Yesterday I went to a soccer game in Quito. No one in the group knew who to cheer for because both teams were from quito. So we bought red hats (see picture) and tried to blend in. Didn't work very well. I guess futbol games aren't a hot spot for North American tourists, because we seemed to be the only white people in the stadium. Had people wanting to take pictures with us and take pictures of their children with us as well (note small girl looking out of place in photo). After the game our troop of Americans ate at TGI Fridays. Um, not my idea. Walking back to the bus afterwards we saw a little girl no older than 2 begging on the street, no parents in sight. This is not a new occurance, but I thought, if I don't give at least one starving child some money before I leave quito, I'm going to hell. I gave her a dollar. I think I'm just going to carry around apples from now on and pass them out to these kids. It's so sad. I'll write more when I'm not feeling like I'm gonna upchuck at any moment. Peas.-s
