Fraser Island

had a great weekend on fraser island despite rain and getting stranded ...

Started off on saturday from Hervey Bay...quite difficult moving back to backpacker's life after the penthouse luxury! We met up with our group on the friday night, 11 of us in total, me, Sez and Hel, Dave and John (both army guys), Dutchy and Eugenia (Dutch!), Laura and Hanna (yorkshire lasses) and Monica (from Germany). So off we left on the saturday in our 4x4 ... we stopped off at a real nice lake and jumped in immediately! It's absolutely prohibited to go into the sea in fraser because of current and the sharks...so lakes it was! Then we drove up on the beach for a while (great fun driving 4x4 knowing it was very unlikely for us to get stuck!) before setting up camp with the rest of the backpackers. (four groups of us in total). Great fun!

Left early next morning towards indian head - where it's possible to watch the tiger sharks from the rocks above (mating season at the moment so loads around!) quite cool! glad we were high up on rocks that's for sure!

Then whilst driving back down beach towards camping area for the night...the 4x4 decided to die on us!!!!! after our ninety mile beach disaster back in new zealand i was a little anxious! We were completely stranded!!! no way was the engine going to start again...so we had to set camp for the night opposite the ship wreck, right next to the sea (during high tide our vehicle was practically swimming!!!)...eventually got some help (19 hours later!!!) and luckuly drove off...we had ran out of diesel!!! but it really wasn't our fault - the petrol gauge was broken! duh! but when we got back to camp later that day and after a few complaints we managed to get some money back as unfortunately we missed out on seeing majority of the island!!!!

but despite the rain we had whilst stranded (typical!!!) we had a really great time - our gang were brilliant fun to be fair so not a massive disaster!
