Townsville & Mackey13th May - 14th MayWe left early for Townsville the following day as it was a full days drive.During a quick stop we rescued a little Kangaroo Bear, which we named Ruby, short for Roo Bear.(The Aussies shorten everything).Ruby will now be joining us on the trip and taking the place of Mini-Monkey.The landscapes were the same as Carins … very rainforesty and Thailand like. There were endless sugar cane and banana plantation yet again. We stopped off briefly at Josephine Falls for some pictures and a short walk.As we turned back to head towards the car, a typical torrential rainforest-like rainfall caught us and we were drenched upon our return. In fact, it rained the entire journey down to Townsville. The following day we set off for another long drive to Airlee Beach. This took us about 4 hours and before long Niels was so sick of looking at sugar plantations that he swore every time one stopped and started again.Apart for one quick uneventful stop at a world war 2nd memorial bunker type thing, we pretty much hammered on to Airlee Beach. This was a beautiful coastal town that is the base of those wanting to visit the Whitsunday islands, which are supposed to be spectacular.Unfortunately, because of our timetable, we couldn't go, but even the coast of Airlee Beach was just so pretty with a beautiful port, sparkling waters and islands on the horizon. We could only spend around 2.5 hours here, so we stopped for lunch and a very quick swim in the man-made lagoon. After that we journeyed on to Mackey, which was about another two and a half hours away where we would spend the night. This was our first encounter with loads of mozzies.Oh, also got a phone-call off Shaz who we'll be meeting when we eventually reach Noosa.Very excited now!
