Mae Sai is the main crossing point from Thailand into Burma. Its a strange place as its very busy but not with tourists as they dont travel this far north, only farang who come to get there visa's extended. The impressive looking crossing point i think is just for show, as where we ate lunch on the river side we saw little children jumping over fences and crossing the shallow river into Thailand. lots ofcheap clothes, cds, dvds and well everything really as it all comes from China.
