We left for Mui Ne about 8am by coach and arrived about lunch time, the sun was finally out and it was HOT. The coach dropped us off at a hotel on the outskirts of town as they all seem to do hoping for abit of commission if we stayed, we decided not too and off we went with two Canadian girls Lorri and Paula and followed the map in the lonely planet. The map was tiny and all the hotels looked very close together so we keep walking for miles with our backpacks and daybags in the stupidly hot sun, not so good! That will teach us not to read the scale on the map!!
We found a nice place on the beach called the watering hole resort, sounded like our kind of place, looked great and was for the money. They had a pet monkey their who was lovely, it was sad for him being locked up but he was well fed and loved us tourists as we gave him so much attention. We had seen far worse on our travels but still should be let out.
We all went for a walk and found a cool beach bar called Pogo's, we all had lunch and relaxed for a while. After we continued to walk to the main stretch of beach and saw Amy and Kate on their bikes cruising along, said hi then all of us met up at Pogo's again that night for drinks by the sea. Sean and I shared a huge bucket with almost a whole bottle of vodka and many Vietnamese red bulls, plenty of ice and im actually liking them now!
The following day we hired some girly bikes and rode the strip of coastline and parked up at a place called Jibe's (another beachbar/watersports centre) as they had their annual windsurfing fun cup competition going on which was good and we sunbathed at the sametime. We booked to go on a jeep safari the next day to the sandunes in an old Nam US military jeep so was looking forward to that. Same Same happened that night!
We got picked up at mid day and our guide first took us to the 'fairy stream' a small stream that run through some dunes, along the way saw many different types of fruit trees etc, it was ok, then off we went to the main white sandunes. On the way we thought this could be the end, some kid on his bike pulled out in front of us and our driver somehow missed him by inches then doing some speed down the straight ocean road heard a massive bang, bang, bang from underneath, jeep jumping and skidding to a stop and oil pouring all over the road. We wern't going anywhere but lukily his brother was nearby so he continued our trip and left him behind. The white dunes were very impressive, looked just like what i'd imaging the sahara to look like, we climbed up them but with the accident forgot to pick up the sledges and left them behind so we made do running down them instead which was fun. On the way back we stopped off at the red dunes as the sun was going down, they were ok but no comparison to the white ones. We made it back safe and sound, all in all was an adventurous afternoon.
The following day hired a ped off some random guy in the hotel, no one seems to ask for driving licences, passports etc and they don't seem to know what insurance is over here so we just go with the flow and be carefull. We rode for quite a while until we hit a busy town, not so good for riding as there don't seem to be any road rules either. We headed back and stopped off at a few 5 star resorts to see some glamour and had a drink at the pool bars, then rode back to the main beach near us where plenty of kitesurfers were out as there was quite a breeze and perfect for sunbathing, Nev and the boy's would love it here. We just chilled out for the rest of the day as we were leaving for hectic Siagon (Ho Chi Minh City) at lunchtime the next day.
