We were too chuffed to be leaving Montevideo safe to say we won't be going back there in a hurry. Hostel Patio looked like a palace after Misiones, there was a big out side area to chill with all the rooms off that and a bar on the roof, sweet. By the time we arrived it was mid afternoon bags dumped map in hand we set off to find are local beach. The beach was cool it had a good skyline view of downtown Punta del Este. The water was not to clear because the beach still runs along the plata de rio river, tomorrow we would find real sea.

We headed back to the hostel for a few chilled drinks and set out into downtown Punta. You can tell this is a rich area, loads of posh little kids fill the streets dressed in designer gear. We found a funky row of bars near the harbor that was filled with luxury boats. This was to be expected, Punta Del Este is known as the St Tropez of South America. The bar was over priced which cut are night early, we missed the night bus so it was a mission walk back along the coast.

Today is the day we will finally be away from the river and in some real sea. We spent the day at Punta beach, f***ing around get smashed by waves was the highlight of the day. Deciding we needed a beach activity we went and got a bat and ball. It took ten minutes before I snapped mine trying to smash a ball out the sea, so typical.

The following day we set out in search of Bikini Beach, good name right. Turns out it's a mission away so we got off the bus at a closer beach where there was a surf competition. After yesterday exploits in Punta we thought we were king of the waves so we hit the water, this turned out not to be the case. The sea got deep quickly and the waves hit you from all directions bowling you over under water and then you get sucked away from shore. We decided to just watch the surfers instead, knowing nothing about surfing we found everything impressive. We went to get a drink at the bar , out of know where 20 of the hottest girls I have seen came out of know where, they were reef girls that had something to do with the surf competition surrounded by loads of huge bouncers, a good sight at the beach. In the evening we chilled at the funky roof top bar at the Hostel. So that was are time in Punta Del Este, a really cool place just a little to up market for a scruffy traveler, next stop La Paloma.
