"I get confused when I look out and see a building and then look again and the building has changed and I think it has changed the other way..." - Scotty (in the revolving restaurant)
Day 33 - 06/11/09 - Chengdu & Kunming (China)
This morning after breakfast , we went for a walk to bakery to get some food for our next sleeper train. We then checked out of the hotel and Wulf transferred us to the train station where we had some lunch and boarded our train to Kunming.
The afternoon was spent relaxing on the train and watching the scenery go by. The train left Chengdu at 1:15pm and was due to arrive in Kunming at 8:15am the next morning.
Day 34 - 07/11/09 - Kunming (China)
This morning our train arrived in Kunming, which is almost 2km above sea level (compared to less than 100m above at home). We were met at the station by our new guide Johnson who transferred us to our new hotel for some breakfast.
It was then time to visit the main tourist attraction for Kunming, Shilin (The Stone Forest). This is an exposed bed of limestone spires weathered and split into amazing clusters that look like a forest. They were amazing and we spent hours exploring them.
This afternoon has been spent relaxing in our room on the 19th floor as the train has taken its toll on our bodies. Dinner was at the hotels revolving restaurant which is located on the 23rd floor. We were terribly confused at first when the centre was turning in a different direction to the outisde - this was until we worked out that only the floor was revolving, and not the windows!
We then decided it would be fun to try and work out how long it took to do one full 360 degree cycle (much better than just asking someone who works here). By our calculations, it is about 3 hours 20 minutes... maybe we will ask someone later.
Take care - Jess & Scotty
