So far so (very) good. Isn't life better when you don't have to work!! It was really nice of Jim & Pam to come up to Kings X - it was a really special 'old fashioned' send off. The ferry to Gothenberg was very relaxing after a hectic few weeks/months and we were given a really good sunset into the bargain. The change over at Gothenberg went smoothly and it was great to meet up with Jacob at Frederickshavn. After a wet and and miserable drive home, a few beers were had by all well into the night and morning. Plans for a walk around Aalborg were dampened when we realised we'd lost our pocket digital camera that had probably fallen out of the rucksack as we headed for the car the previous night. But hey ... life and our journey must go on! Just thank goodness that I had downloaded all the photographs whilst on the ferry! Aalborg is a nice small town and we had a walk around and then had a few beers on an old ice-breaker on the fjiord. Jacob cooked that evening - a wonderful pork fillet dish with his special - JACOB SORENSEN'S SPECIAL SCRUMPTIOUS RED WINE SAUCE. Delicious!! The evening was followed by impromptu music from Jacob and Louise - with appropriate air guitar and bongos from me!!!! We were impressed by Louise and Jacob's musical and artistic ability - especially Louise's paintings. Sunday saw us at Aalborg Tivoli which Nina and Sofie enjoyed - as did Margaret who did her first loop the loop - and she wasn't sick afterwards!! Monday saw us on our way after sad farewells to Denmark. We managed to make all connections and arrived in Stockholm and our hostel on time. We headed out for a drink and bite to eat. First stop was the Black & Brown Bar that was really atmospheric. It had 23 different beers (from across the world) on tap! Jim B and Quentin - eat/drink your hearts out!! After I was dragged away we found a restaurant we'd been to before (Texas) and had a small steak the size of a fully grown bullock. Very tasty and very good value. The following day we did a bit of wandering and went to another favourite haunt - the Central Market - for fried herring and a beer. Yummy! We were/are getting used to wandering and after lugging our rucksacks (2 each) through Stockholm to the ferry, we boarded the Tallink ferry 'Victoria' to Tallinn. It was even better than the DFDS to Gothenburg - it had loads of different beers from around the world. After leaving port and travelling through the archipeligo we went out onto deck 10 to watch the view and sun going down. About 20-30 minutes out of port we heard a splash and looked down to see someone had fallen (?!!?) overboard. Everyone stood around aimlessly and eventually Margaret and I decided someone had to do something (jump into the water to save him? - forget it) so we ran like headless chickens through corridors and up and down stairways to look for Tallink staff. We reported it and were met with some strange and questioning looks but soon saw orange-clad guys beside a big red inflatable (boat!!). We rushed back on deck as the boat sailed on through the islands and soon saw loads of boats heading to the rescue. We still couldn't believe it To cut an (already) long story short, the guy was picked up, the polis, coastgaurd, and harbourmaster boats came out to 'meet' (i.e. intercept) us. We were warned to expect a helicopter (the lights mast etc were taken down in readiness but were shortly put back up) and the coastguard boat came alongside and the guy (who then looked more feminine) was taken off the ship. We sailed on in disbelief!!! Tallinn is a great wee city and we've explored the Toompea and old town and parks and palaces. On Thursday we decided to opt for a cheaper night out so headed off to a local bar where, amazingly, a chap who seemed to be Keith was barman!! Spooky because he didn't let on that he knew us and we thought it was Keith playing a trick on us! Afterwards we had a really nice pizza although eating it was hard to swallow while the TV showed a guy demonstating urine therapy! Cancel the white wine!! Next stop Finland, Porvoo and Helsinki!
