We found out from a park ranger that all the local national parks are only accessible by 4x4 vehicles, which our sporty red Holden Commodore does not fit the description of, so we had to be creative in finding our hiking tracks. First of all, we headed into the Town of 1770, a small community that marks the location of Captain Cook's rediscovery of mainland Australia. We hiked up and around the bluffs and I even made my way down to a secret beach as Steve watched from above. Its quite exhilarating to make the first footprints on a pristine beach like that, envisioning the very first footprints left there over 240 years ago. We stopped at a few other hiking tracks on our way back to Agnes Water, even trying our hand at some exercise machines at a park (hilarious video to come). We stopped at a little grocery store to pick up food for the supper we decided to make back at our condo, bought meat at a butcher shop, and then sat down for a delicious lunch of fish n chips and mediterranean pizza at Ramona's Cafe. We hadn't gotten our fill of hiking in yet, so after bringing home the groceries, (and taking a short nap/reading), we were back on the beach, running towards town. A couple miles isn't too difficult to run on solid ground, but that loose sand definitely made it more of a challenge! We were told that we should be able to find a boardwalk that lines the beach, so that was our mission. Hiking along the road, through the woods, sneaking through a creepily quiet campground where everyone was living and just sitting outside staring at us, down some steep pathways, and onto the beach for some magnificent waves hitting the rocks (we even captured a little crabby crab on our GoPro before heading back up the bluff). After a few rock-climbing maneuvers and some sandy backroad walking, we somehow ran into this boardwalk we'd been searching for! We finished up our hike with a quick jog back to our condo (on the road!) before cleaning up and starting on our home-cooked meal of steak, chicken & sun-dried tomato ravioli with pesto, and garlic bread. It was such a tasty meal that we just had to treat ourselves to dessert - a 16-minute highlight video of the latest Packer victory. GOPACKGO!!!
We put together a preview video for some highlights in our first part of the trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIfU8bPDUMc&feature=plcp
Enjoy!
