Seven Worlds Will Collide

The first informal parliament
This quarry was where the prisoners (incl Mandela) were forced to work in the blinding heat & sun. The hole in the limestone was the toilet and they started holding political/philosophical meetings in there. The guards didn't break it up or find out about it because it was forbidden for white people to enter a black toilet, and it was designated a black toilet. When Mandela was freed there was a ceremony back here in which he placed a rock in the centre of the path (to the right, out of the picture) and the other prisoners did the same. That rock pyramid still stands today. I just didn't know what it was when we passed it and it was in view!
