San Sebastián...
'Not just a pretty face...'
Aside from San Seb being one of the most truly beautiful places I have ever seen it brings with it a rich soul. The pinxos (tapas) covers every bar surface in all of the bars throughout San Seb, it's an array if mouthwatering fresh delicacies; croquettes probably winning my heart the most. So scrumptious! You literally grab a plate & help yourself. Does it get any better?
The cobblestoned paths throughout the city, the buzz of happy people & home of some awe inspiring monuments/beaches & views just top off this beautiful coastal town. The best view was to the left of the town (looking away from the ocean).. It was seriously stunning. Nicole & I did go on the hop on hop off, we would both have to admit we laughed at how silly it was. There really wasn't that much else to see... You see the beauty in wandering the streets & beach.
The locals are full of life, the love to laugh; they have a very cheeky sense of humour which you just can't help but get wrapped up in despite not speaking the same language nor really understanding each other. It doesn't matter here, as long as you wear a genuine smile & you have an open mind I think. San seb locals just love banter. Of which I am pretty good at!
Last night I found myself in a bar next door to our hotel, very scant English spoken by one of the people in their-all locals. But this mattered not as they attempted to talk to me, they were so curious! I showed interest in the dj booth, so the next minute the barman was handing me the headphones & showing me where the CDs were! I had zero knowledge of what I was actually doing on the decks! Meh... No one cared. I carried on the night with these 3 people I met there, Helen, Queen Marianne (as she likes to be known) & Pedro. They showed me so many cool bars which were filled with locals, travellers wouldn't even see these bars for looking they are so inconspicuous. We had a blast, playing foosball, slamming shots & talking absolute non-sense. We then farewelled each other & went our separate ways at around 3am..
I spent the next 2 hours completely LOST! I was walking up & down this street 'I swear to god my hostel has been destroyed or moved, cos it was right here, I swear!' All in the process I was pulled over 3 times by police offering me assistance, I assisted night workers painting the town posts black & giving them guidance on where to paint next... They were loving it! I had paint stained fingernails for days after these antics... Constant reminder! When I did eventually find my 'stolen' hostel the policemen watched me from across the road & applauded me. It would have been pretty funny to watch... I might also add I'm pretty sure the last bar I was at was literally just around the corner...I wish I had a go pro on me that night! A fantastic locals night...
