I'm feeling extremely privileged to get to write a guest post on these two beautiful travellers blog but as a sit on a busy London tube it all feels like a dream..... We had exactly 20 days in Colombia and we were making the most of them - come hell or high water! First stop: the Lost City trek... The trek word is crucial here because they weren't messing around with it - this got us all bonding over endurance testing with uphill climbs - we made it , touched the sky as a group and what an epic feeling it was. The two highlights for me were - going to bed in a hammock at six o' clock and playing twenty questions to put ourselves to sleep and on our way down from the trek a full sink falling off the wall onto Dani's foot at a rest stop and anddddd Yer one trying to charge us for it - joke shop. Classic Colombia.
And then it happened our first night out holla rocking the hostel and then to a mansion club in the hills that overlooked the bay sure where would you be going? Next day in dreamers was like a collective fizz of nationalities, fun and bonding - total bliss sure what happened the next night queen bees again rocking the club high fiving people - the lot
Tayrona park the next day - hanging - but a beautiful spot where we all appeared to neglect sun cream particularly myself - we were in a Colombian haze forgetting our pasty complexions - school boy error!! Into Santa Marta a different feeling a mix of city Caribbean flavour with a strong wind whipping around. Orla, Danielle and Jean go to the supermarket and try and carry too much stuff : the wind picks up and we're like something out of tornado - black bags flying at us,caps coming off, bags breaking = hilarious! I took myself off on a two day date then sure how bad, when in Colombia and all that! Spent two days in a square meetings all these fabulous Colombian people and having the lols . The girls kept up their reputation of owners of the club high fiving their way forward - heyyyyyyyy!!
Next stop cartagena - great spot and I can see why all the Americans go there - beautiful, historic, touristy and hot as hell! Spent three very fun days here partying on rooftops making a new high five gang and living the dream. Getting to know the city during the day visiting local beautiful beaches where these women start massaging you and you have no say!! A highlight was watching the sun go down at Cafe del Mar and drinking it all in.
Jean and I made the decision to go to Medellin a day early to see a coffee plantation so we have to separate for a day the aniexty. We explored Medellin by taking a cable car through the slums and stopping for a beer in the highest slum - (sorry mum) for me this was a high point the people, the colours, the smells, the reality!! Next day the coffee tour I'll never take another coffee for granted again we are lazy fockers with our three euro lattes I'll tell you that!! Lovely day out learnt a lot about the struggles Colombia faces and the drug that has torn the country apart.
Sure what happened that night when we all got reunited - session I'd say....!! I didn't love the nightlife in Medellin as much because the clubs were very city I'm more of a beach club girl myself. It's far from beach clubs I was rared I hear you say but a girls got taste.
Next up the token Pablo Escobar tour which I don't think we realised how real it would be going to his house meeting his brother a convicted criminal. Hearing the stories of an attempted Robin Hood it's hard to see the wood from the trees and make any clear decisions. ( could also be the hangover) Final day the best decision ever was made and that was FOOTBALL ---- electric is the only word to describe the game we went to. I don't know about football and I don't know about the team but I do know about Craic and this was serious, serious craic sure we were so hyper after it what could we do but.... Session! partied all night on a rooftop sure till our flight the next morning ( sorry mum) . I can honestly say I have never felt sorrier for the women checking is in trying to charge Danielle tonge for extra Luggage - hilarious. In a demented haze we arrived in Bogota and slept zzzzz's. Only to get back up and do a great walking tour and see this eclectic city covered in graffiti and police but with an interesting vibe and stories. And that was it up up and away after a blissful three weeks with three now lifelong friends
I think it was Fleetwod Mac that said " you can go you're own way....." And that's what we did
