Left La Paz and headed to yet another border and into Peru. We drove to a place called Puno on Lake Titikaka. Here we did the usual walk around town and went out for dinner. We went to a gorgeous restaurant and I had an Alpaca steak which was delicious and as a table we also tried guinee pig. It looked a big odd as you could quite clearly see that you were eating a pet, but it tasted a bit like duck only more fatty.
The next morning we´took a crazy bike stlye tuk-tuk taki to the port on the lake and took a 3 hour relaxing boat journey to Tequile island. Here we walked up to the top of the island, which was bloody hard work with the altitude and went to the main plaza. Afterwards we walked further for lunch which was yummy fresh fish. Then we went back down the otherside of the island, back on to the boat and on to the next island, Amantan.
We spent the night here in a homestay. Steph, Maddie, Sarah and myself were put with a lovely family. Our mum was Lucia and our dad was Julian. They have five children, but only 2 lived with them and we only really met the youngest boy aged 13. Most of the people on the island only speak Quechua but luckily our family could also speak spanish so we could manage a few basic conversations. We spent the afternoon there and all of us and our families met up later for a football match, locals v the boys on Shanna (our truck). We went back to our families for dinner, then they dressed us up in traditional dress-very colourful and pretty for the girls, and went to the local hall for live Quechuan music and dancing. It was quite a surreal night, but great fun.
The next morning we had breakfast with our family and then got our boat onto our final island visit, a reed island. Here the islands are completely made of reed and are floating isand, so they can moved at anytime and have to be anchored. Also everything on the island, the houses (huts) and everything in them is also made from reeds. Was pretty basic, but very impressive.
The whole two days were incredible and we got to meet some great people, see their way of life and practise a bit of Quechuan.
We came back to Puno by boat that afternoon, had a nap and got ready for the next drive day to Cusco
