We left the Grampians nice and early this morning where Stu treated me to some yummy peanut on toast-again I am writing this in our new camp site in Apollo Bay whilst waiting for the rain to stop so we can explore the beach. We have just, made a yummy tea and drank our bottle of Rose which we bought in the Borrassa Valley.
We headed to the Great Ocean Road today; unfortunately the weather isn't that great it's a tad over cast but still relatively warm.We headed to the great ocean road via some more sea side towns such as Warnambool, Peterborough and Port Campbell. As we are still in our walking mode we took the opportunity to do some of the walks the region offered. We walked to the Bay of Martys, London Bridge-which is not in London, it's a rock formation that used to look like London Bridge until half of it fell down in 1990.The Arch; which is a piece of rock which as you can guess looks like an arch but with a hole in it from weathering. As you can guess I was in heaven during this day I got to put my science hat on and explain to stu all about the different types of rock, weathering and erosion. We continued to walk to Loch Ard Gorge (which dad you would have loved) it was a walk that explained about how ships got into trouble here and ended up being shipwrecked. Then we got to the main attraction, The Twelve Apostles well now it's only six.I think if we had not seen all the other rock formations before this we would have been more wowed, but it literally was just 6 pieces of rock out to sea, still beautiful though.Lastly we walked down Gibson's stairs to the beach. The tide is unbelievably strong here it is actually scary. It's so forceful, you can feel the tide pulling you in even though youare only paddling, and the sand just vanishes down a steep sand hill into the sea-was scary the way the sea was so immense.
We then headed to Apollo Bay where we are spending our evening again in the rain; hopefully it will stop once I have finished this so we can have a wander on the beach. We have had a lovely few days and especially now enjoying our Borassa bottle of wine which we were saving for the celebration of experiencing the great ocean road.We only have Bruce for 2 nights after this one, and then we are in Melbourne. You probably won't read this till then as we have no internet again.Toodle pip x x
