Tuesday 15th Jan - Australia Zoo
Crikey!!!! today we went to Steve Irwin's Zoo. We know that we have already been to 1 zoo but felt we couldn't visit Oz without paying a visit to the infamous zoo of the late Mr Irwin and crikey mate, what a zoo! This is a must for anyone in this area to visit as you not only get to see fantastic animals and interact with them but you really do get to learn how passionate Steve Irwin and his family were (and still are) about the welfare and protection of Australia's wildlife. The Crocaseum was totally awesome and Steve's wife, Terri was there to do one of the crocodile shows. This was amazing as they really do interact and get up close and personal with the ol crocs for our entertainment! rather them than us! The show also included some amazing birds and snakes. It's definately a must see. We also got to pat one of the Koalas which we both loved and tried in vain to see if we could find a way to smuggle him out of the zoo! We also fed some kangaroos and were in love with Skippy and his mates, it was a great experience. We bumped into our good friend from the Magic Bus in NZ, Mike, who seems to be stalking us at the minute! Also met a guy from Olney! He asked Sarah if she was travelling in between college and Uni!! At this rate we're going to need a bigger plane to get her home due to the head swelling! Charlie is certain that she saw the poor boys white stick packed in his rucksack and I swear he walked into a lampost at least twice! heee heee. A really good day which we both enjoyed. In the evening we had dinner with Kerrie and her lovely flatmate Mel at a posh restaurant in the West End (yes, we really are slumming it! - we have been nicknamed Flash Packers by everyone and hey, we're not going to argue with that!). Had a great evening and was very sad to say goodbye to Kerrie and Mel as we are leaving Brissie tomorrow.
Wednesday 16th Jan - Noosa
Travelled to Noosa on the Oz bus. Stopped off at a big market which was full of some good jewellery and mystical stalls. Arrived at Noosa and went to the beach in the afternoon and saw the funniest sight on the beach! We were chilling out and all of a sudden this group of around 8 pensioners started marching up and down as if they were rehersing for a show! (it was very visual and you had to be there!) but as you can imagine we just couldn't control the hysterical laughing and Charlie has it on her video so she'll show you all when she gets back!
Back at the hostel we stayed onsite and listened to a band called Sexual Chocolate. A real funny mix of musicians - one Brian May type, one Huey 'Fun loving criminals' type and a very sensible drummer! They were so bad that they were good! they played Police covers and other 80's classics. Seeing as most of the people in the bar were born in the 80's - we were the only people who seemed to recognise any of the tracks!
Thursday 17th Jan - Noosa
Sarah was feeling restless due to all the relaxing we done recently, so went for a walk along the National Park. she walked for 2.5 hours along the coastal walkways, bumping into some very hot surfer dudes! She also saw wild Koalas and would recommend the walk to anyone visiting Noosa. Feeling that we wanted a bit of 'normality', we went to the cinema tonight to watch 'I am Legend' with Will Smith (or Leg End as we say !) . The cinema in Noosa was very luxurious! Enough leg room to stretch out fully and the arms come up so you can even put your feet up!
Friday 18th Jan - Hervey Bay
We stopped off at Rainbow Beach on the way to Hervey Bay. It looked like a really nice place to stop and the beach was v.nice. We checked into the YHA Colonial which is a really nice hostel. Pool, spa and clean rooms with fans. We have now returned to twin rooms yippeee!!!! Had a BBQ dinner for $5 - bargain and eat as much as you can. Had an early night as tomorrow we start our Fraser Island Camping Tour and 6am start!
