Sarah's travels
Hi all, hope everyone is well!!
Well we've been in Melbourne for a month now. We're both well and love Melbourne-great city. We stayed in a backpackers for the first week and then moved into a shared house. The house is 20mins out of the city by tram. Most of the people living there are ok but it does have the feel of a student house, but instead of students its middle aged men! Not had much luck on the job front but we did come during christmas so not a great shock. I have got a couple of hours per week cleaning the house we're in and Mike has a casual furniture removal job. Mike's boss was a bit short of workers on a job recently so i went to help them out and he said I did better than half the guys he employs so i might have the odd work from there from now on :) we have had a change of plan though and we're now going to look at doing some fruit picking in Tasmania. So hopefully in the next few weeks we'll fnd some work and head over there.
Melbourne itself is really nice and has great trasport around. We both love the Queen Victoria market which has a huge arange of things on offer from pets to clothes to carrots. A couple of days ago before the oz open started there was a fund raiser for Haiti. It cost us $10 each and we got to see Federrer, Hewitt, S.Williams, Roddick, Checkovic, Clister, Nadal, Stousur and the junior Oz champ- (please excuse the spelling of half of those names!) They split into 2 teams and were playing doubles and it was great fun, I haven't laughed so much for ages! They all had mike's on while they were playing so enjoyed taking the mick out of each other and especially the line judges and hawk eye! Rodd*** could definatley take up comedy as a hobby!
Christmas and new year were pretty quiet as we didnt have a job at all then so were looking after the pennies. We visited Geelong for christmas and for new year we did head into town to watch the fire works but at about 9 it started raining quite heavy and we'd forgot rain jackets so decided to head home. But we did see some of the most amazing lightning I've ever seen- fork ligtning but then green clouds and red skys, it was crazy!
We have found some poker tournaments so Wednesday nights is our treat night and we spend about $60 and have dinner out and play poker and then thursday nights its a free game- (no cash prize though obviously, your playing for points).
Think that's about everything for now :) hope you all had a great christmas and new year
Love Sarah x :) x
p.s We had a 43c day a couple of weeks ago and then at night it didnt drop below 30 but we somehow managed to survive!
