I do Believe I was talking about silent day in my blog. Well the night wasn't too bad Julian and Bettina played card games with me and we sat around chatting before we gave up and went to bed. They are such a lovely couple and have kept me company these past couple of days, I might have gone crazy without them. I don't feel like I'm a third wheel when I'm with them, which is good. They keep me entertained and we both laugh and make fun of each about certain things I say or do in english and vice versa. While the night and day of doing nothing was ok the next morning got a little hectic ........
So the power is down and this means the atms are working. Without B and J I wouldn't of had any dinner last night but now I needed money to pay for my room. We got told that at 6 am they would be back on, then 7am. So we wait then we get told it was 8pm. I was getting a little stressed as our flight was at 9am. So B and J head off and say they will send the taxi back for me at 8am. That time rolls around and they still aren't on. By this point I have had enough, the guy who is running it told me it's not his problem if they aren't on. I told him it wan't my problem if he can't inform he guests about the atms to make sure they have the money to pay. So at 8:05pm I pick up my bags and tell one of them to come with me to find an atm or they aren't getting any money. The skinny guy got angry and was shouting at me to stay and I can't go as I haven't paid. I could care less by this point and kept telling him to come with me as I have a flight to catch and I'm not missing it. So the fat guy gets out his moped to take me. Skinny guy isn't happy about this but I'm not going to shout at him I was on my way out to find somewhere he could catch up. So fat guy lets me hop on his moped with both my bags on, holding on for dear life we set off for an atm. It's turns out they still weren't on and eventually at the 6th or 7th one I see a guy standing there getting money. What a relief!!! I half fall, half get off the moped as it's pretty hard when you have two back packs on and stumble up to get my money. What a scene, I tell you, if you were there how you would of laughed. So i'm running back to the moped shouting at him get me to the airport and off we zoomed. Yikes I have never been so fast on a moped and he is really trying to help get me there. Thank goodness it's not far. So we get there I don't have enough for the ride but just give him what Ive got and he doesn't mind (and obviously the money for the room) and run like a lunatic to check in. Phew made it, the plane is boarding but I am here- stupid atm's. Anyway thinking B and J are already on board- they aren't. Turns out they had had problems too like having enough for the taxi and giving him a little bit extra to come back and get me. He didn't, money grabbing swine. They didn't have any more money and the atms were down at the airport too. They nearly ended up selling Julians watch and razor set. What a hectic morning but all was ok and the flight was fine. However ........
We get through everything fine until customs. Julian has a knife in his bag that he bought when they had been trekking. Customs didn't like it and took him and the kinfe off. We thought it was kinda funny till we were told he could be a while as the police have to come down to take a statement. We were a little concerned but just had to wait it out and see what happened when he returned. We also found it pretty funny, could this morning have any more drama too it. Luckily J re-appeared after about 20 min. There were 3 police men and he had to give statements to all 3 and they kept asking him if he had a gun in his bag, a gun on him etc etc. He managed to escape the $300 fine somehow but the knife was taken away. It was an eventful morning to say the least but am really glad I had friends with me to laugh about it on the plane. We had lunch and then went to the different places we were staying. I am in Chinatown because I like it here. My evening consisted of a bit of shopping, dinner and bed. I think I was the first one into bed about 10:30 and no one else was. I put my eye mask on and ear plugs in, woke up a few hours later and everyone was in bed. Then I went back to sleep and woke up again to find everyone gone! Very bizarre- it was only 9:30 but everyone had got up and gone out.
So today my last day, I went to Bugis for a wander round the shops then had a walk along the river followed by a wander round the Asian Civillisations Museum. Met up with B and J in Chinatown for lunch and ended up going back to Bugis with them. And now it's over. All I have left to do is go to the airport and get on my flight.
It's been a great great great trip. I feel I have learnt things about myself and the people I have around me. I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life that involves a job. I have seen some incredible places and feel really lucky to have finally made this happen. I have met some awesome people and have some fab time with friends from home who have met me somewhere out here. There have been ups and down like anything but nothing bad happened to me and there were too many good times you never remember the bad. I'm lucky I was able to come and do this, I love South East Asia and am sure I will be back again sometime soon, but there is still a whole lota world to cover.
So thanks for reading my blog and taking the time, it mean's a lot. I am sad to go home, it's been the best time and the one of the best things I have ever done but I am excited to go back and start something new. I will miss so many places I have been, I love it here in Singapore (my fav city on this trip), I love everything about the backpacking lifestyle. It's been incredible.
See you all soon,
Signing off xxxxx
