Hi again from Cambodia!!
So after Siem Reap, we headed North to Ban Lung which is in the jungle. We expected this to be a 12 hour bus journey, about an hour into the journey we realised from talking to one of the locals it was going to be alot longer and we had to change buses as the roads to Ban Lung are not very developed and basically to get there we had to drive all the way down from Siem Reap and all the way back up to reach the area...so the journey ended up being around 16 hours so we arrived in the evening feeling exhausted!! we didnt get aroind to booking a hostel but we managed to find a guy from a hostelwe knew of at the bus station so off we went expecting to get into his tuk tuk...turns out he just has a motorbike so somehow he got me plus my giant bag on and vicki did the same with his friend...lets just say the 20 min journey was a very bumpy ride and weve never held on so tight hehe
Ban lung is a really nice quiet town set amongst the jungle,we stayed in a wooden bungalow with a hammock...very cool and itwas a bargain as not many travellers head this far north. Our first day was spent at Boenh Yeak Loam lake which is a clear blue volcanic crater lake very pretty!! As you will see from the photos we spent the day jumping in :-)
Next we sent off on another trekking adventure this time into the jungle and when we say trekking this was extreme compared to last time as we were walking for 4-5 hours both days in 40 degrees heat!! Beyttter still after our water supplies ran out on day one we were left with warm green tea to drink ive never downed so much tea it was horrible!! So after pur longtail boat across the river and trek we arrived at our jumgle camp complete with hammocks to sleep in, a fore and jusy the jungle for a toilet...it really was camping!! We took a dip in the waterfall and then our ranger cooked the chocken stew in a bamboo tree pole that was put in the fire...very impressive, they do so much woth bamboo theres no need for pots and pans! After an amazimg meal we spent the evening drinking rice wine...the cambodians love this and drink it most nigjts. I have no idea how as its like drinking straoght vodka and os around 40% strenght, our guide proved this by setting some ight! Finally the night ended with the ranger whipping off to catch 2 frogs which we then roasted over the fire and ate...this was vickis first time eating frog and she liked it but felt guilty after as we kept seeing frogs ha! A
Day two was spent trekkimg and we ended up on a local minorityvillage where we joined a family in their bboo hut for lunchand finally visoted the cemetry which you will see from the photo each family buildd a giant enclosure to bury each member and they goall out on the decorations! .Once agai we loved trekking but were exhausted by the end...Next was Khmer Cambodian New Year which was a whole 3 days of celebrations and alot of rice wone drinking...we found ourselves being pullef into many cafes whilst wandering and being given lots of free beer it was great hehe
Our last stop in Cambodia was Phenom Penh where we visited the killing fields and S-21 museum to see the aftermath of Pol Potts massacre. We had an audio tour at the killing fields which wad pretty horrifoc tohear all abput what happened and seeing all the skulls made us realise just how many people were executed... 3 million Cambodians in total. After seeong the sights we were in need of a bit of fun so we headed to Cambodias biggest funfaor!! This was so much fun though i should mention the twister ride whoch began as a normal ride quite scary bit fun however spon mevicki and a japanesegirl who joined us were clinging on for dear life screaming for it to stopas we were being thrown out pur seats at a crazy speed it was terrifying...i came away with bruises on my back and legs so now we understand why all the Caamnodiians were stood watching us instead of goin on!!! Finally our last day in Cambodia was spent at a swanky swimming pool in a posh hotel we fpund very nice!! and that evenong we went for dinner and drinks with a girl from our dorm!
Overallwe would say Cambodia has been eventful...ot started a little crazy but we loved all the sights and things we fid :-)
Next we fly
