After arriving back form Ha Long Bay we said goodbye to our boat mates then headed for the airport. Next on the list was Hue.
It was a quick flight down to Hue (we like to say it was because of our time constraint that we flew but let's be honest who wants to get a 13 hour overnight bus when flights were cheap!). Here we got to see a more touristy side of Vietnamese history and culture. We did a tour that brought us to see a pagoda, the botanical gardens, martial arts performance and a boat cruise. Between the jet lag, hangovers, heat, travelling and partying it all got a little much for Caitriona so she decided to take a nap during the cruise, much to the amusement of everybody else on the boat!
One of my favourite stop off points on this tour was the Imperial City. It is beautifully ornate from the ceiling to the floor. It has been decorated with gems, striking mosaics and gold leaf statues. In the courtyard out side stand stone soldiers with a back drop of the peaceful lily ponds.
When our tour ended we had a wander around the town, got some dinner then headed to bed. We had to be up early to catch the bus to Hoi An.
