Singapore and Kuala Lumpur!!Well we have been busy! We left Australia a week ago today and have traveled through 3 countries since then! Singapore was our first stop and we loved it. A really clean and tidy city. It was here that we first came across the slightly unusual toilets! Yep, just like the French, a hole in the ground! Good for the thigh muscles anyway! We walked all around the city and fell upon the Merlion (see pics) and then enjoyed a nice meal at Clarke Quay, Riverside. From Singapore we decided to get some culture in us and so took the KTLM Malaysian Railway from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, which travels through the heart of the country. It was a good experience and nice scenery; lots of farms and pretty countryside. It was a long journey (7 hours) and very warm but we survived and reached KL early evening. Early night for us!Woke up to explore KL and didn't actually come across much! Not much to the city to be honest but we did visit the famous PetronasTowers (largest towers in the world since the 9/11 WorldTradeTowers collapsed) which were pretty impressive. The free tour of the towers only took you to the skywalk bridge so we didn't bother going up them but enjoyed lunch there in the afternoon. Decided to get a cab to the Golden Triangle (which the guidebooks rant about); BIG MISTAKE! From our map in looked like 5 mins away but we decided to get a cab because it was 5 mins down the highway? well 45 mins later we were still nowhere near the Golden Triangle! The cab driver had NO idea where he was going! He even stopped to ask another cabbie and got lost on his directions as well! We ended up getting out wherever and getting in another cab back to our hostel! I guess that's one way to see the city, I think we'll stick to Sightseeing buses next time! The next morning we decided to get 'fit and healthy' so decided on a game of tennis in the hostel grounds; 34 degrees we'll have you know! Never sweated like it in my life!! Good exercise though!Things had been going well in KL and we were looking forward to getting to Phuket (Thailand); but perhaps things had been going too well!! We left nice and early in the morning to get to KL Airport to catch our 12.45pm flight to Phuket and we could see our flight on the screen as per usual. We were waiting to be able to check our bags in and the screen just never changed, we were thinking this was a little unusual, especially with it now being 12pm!!! So we decided to ask for help? and found out that our Terminal was 20 minutes away (yikes!!), and that Check In for International Flight closed 45 mins before departure! Now my maths has never been that great but even I could work out that we were in trouble! So we jumped into the closest cab, told him to put his foot down (not a good idea, Malaysian drivers aren't great when going slow, let alone fast and yes we did have a 'near-death-experience' on the way when he took the wrong turn and then yanked the steering wheel 180 ?to correct it!!!).Anyway, we finally reached the airport (amazingly it only took 12 mins!!) and I sprinted through the airport, begged the check in staff to let us on and somehow by 12.45pm we were sitting in our designated seats on-board our flight to Phuket - we made it! Still don't know how but we were so glad we did! So here I am writing this in Phuket, not much to this town so we're off to PatongBeach tomorrow.Trust you are all well and I will see most of you in 3 weeks time!! Lots of love, Sara xxx
