Sara & Bryan's Travels
We took a relatively short 6 hour bus journey to Salto, which on first appearances, seemed in the middle of nowhere. It turned out that our initial impression was valid since there isn't too much going on here - I can only assume they brought us here to break up the journey to Iguacu Falls.
This place wasn't in our guidebook so we had no idea what to expect, but given how derelict it was we were grateful to be only having one night here. This night involved going to an all you can eat restaurant so all was not totally lost. As well as temoprarily satisfying my obsession with potatoes, there was a humungous flamed grilled barbecue which went down a treat. As people know I do really love my food!
The following day we had quite a lot of thunder storms so spent most of the day in reception. Luckily there was a TV so I was able to watch Sara's favourite football team, but it also gave us a chance to try and catch up with the blog and photos. In between the downpours we managed to have a quick wander around the small town, where the highlight was me riding a mechanical police motorbike designed for a 5 year old (I couldn't fit into the racecar or train). I also got a wet bum for my troubles! We later found out that the girl who spent most of her time spewing on the bus here, Georgie, was actually really ill and coupled with her diabetes it complicated things which resulted with her in intensive care. Gladly all turned out OK (she joined up with us a couple of days later) and we all felt a little bit bad for mocking her about feeling rough from alcohol.
The only two things of note that you could do here is horseback riding and there is a spa with treatments. There is no chance that either of us would want to do the former and unfortunately the latter is too much of a luxury to indulge in (especially since we are now having an extra 5 nights in Brazil). What was a bit strange though is that many people just walk around in dressing gowns, presumably aptly dressed for the spa. Oh well I guess I can adopt this pyjama club culture when I return home unemployed!
