Sara & Bryan's Travels
Our penultimate country, which means the end of travelling is getting closer unfortunately. Nonetheless Uruguay has the reputation for being friendly and laid back so it should fit in exactly with my nature.
We left Buenos Aires by ferry, our first water crossing of the trip. It wasn't really that exciting although I did strike up a conversation with a friendly local that passed time. Unsuprisingly sara slept most of the way, I think it was probably all the talking of Latin American football that was too exhilerating for her. On arriving in Colonia (short for Colonia del Sacramento), it was raining and not exactly warm, it was almost as if we had gone a bit too far across the Atlantic and were back home! Well that was until we went exploring and saw what a picturesque place it was with the cobbled streets.
There is an option of hiring golf carts to whizz around the streets, although it did look a lot of fun, we opted out and got around the more traditional way by foot. It is only a small place so we ambled around the cobbled streets towards the sea, passing by the old town walls. By the time we made our way back to the lighthouse on Plaza Major it started to rain again, so we thought it would be a good time to indulge in the cafe culture that exists here. It is easy to see why it is a charming yet sleepy place.
In the evening a lot of the group went for an expensive meal. We decided to save some pennies (South America has turned out to be very expensive since Chile) and settled on some french bread with a cheesy garlic and onion dip watching the big bang theory! We will save our energies for the capital tomorrow which harbours almost half of the country's population.
