And so we come to the end of travelling. I thought it might be a nice idea to sum up what we have gained from our experiences and, to make the journey home less depressing, what we have missed from home.
Seven and a half months seems to have gone ridiculously quickly, it seems like only yesterday I was packing up my flat and dealing with all the last minute paperwork ready to leave. But when I think about everything we've done, all the stories we have (we'll bore you to death with them when we come home), all the amazing things we've seen, then I think that was quite a lot to fit into seven and a half months! Here's a little summary of it:
17 countries (counting Hong Kong but not England or our stopover in Frankfurt)
3 continents
18 flights
Countless dodgy stomachs (Unfortunately not so much Bryan!)
Amazing food
Disgusting food
Amazing people
Horrible people (the flip flop beating)
One stay in the rainforest
19 night buses
Hundreds of mountains
3 scooter rentals
Lots of sunshine
Lots of rain
Too much hiking
More McDonald's than is appropriate
7 outfits worn over and over again
5 torn clothes
1 broken backpack
Most of our time spent in flip flops
The things I'm looking forward to going home for:
Seeing my family and any friends who haven't forgotten me
A proper cup of tea!
Being able to flush toilet paper down the toilet
Roast dinners
British Chinese food
Rediscovering my wardrobe
Straightening my hair, wearing nail polish and high heels (more so Sara than Bryan)
Drinking water from the tap
Beans on toast (more Bryan than Sara)
Chip Shop (still Bryan...)
Hot showers
Going to cafes
The truth is if someone was to give me another few grand I'd happily stay out here longer. There's still so much more of the world to see. But on the whole it's been an amazing journey. Of course sometimes it has been frustrating and challenging but this is all part of the experience. I've seen some of the most beautiful places in the world, learned so many new things, faced my fears, made some brilliant new friends and, at the risk of getting really cheesy, I feel so lucky that I've had the opportunity to have these experiences.
Hopefully this is not the end but just the beginning as there are so many other countries that we would like to see and of course re-visit, in particular Thailand, Indonesia, China, Mexico and Argentina. For now though, goodbye and see you soon!
