Next point of call was the capital of Peru, Lima. We had the pleasure of arriving here via a night bus, which is never a great night sleep no matter how 'comfortable' they claim the bus is. We arrived in Huanchaco early in the morning and half dead from the night bus. The bus was actually quite comfortable but you can never get into a deep sleep if you're not fully lying down. From Cuenca we took a 5 hour public bus to the border crossing into Peru. Only where the bus dropped us off apparently wasn't the boarder crossing. Fortunately, Paul from our group took a long time getting his stuff off the bus so by the time we realised we were in the wrong place the bus was still there so we could get back on.
