The crossing was good. A strong headwind in Biscay slowed our progress a tad, but there was insufficient list to cause any real seasickness problems.
Watched Man City share the points with Liverpool on the big screen.
JC resolutely, courageously and comprehensively ignored the advice on her seasick tablets which stated 'not to be taken with alcohol'. For my part, I ignored my gut feeling that I should avoid the plate of (supposedly) fresh prawns for dinner. So far, so good. Both of us.
After the Chinese contortionist and the clown, the main cabaret in the bar last night was a Katy Perry tribute act, comprising 'Katy', a couple of (somewhat chunky) dancers and a hard drive full of backing music. It wasn't too bad as it happened, with really solid versions of favourites like I Kissed A Girl and Firework (the encore).
As all the cabins had been booked we slept on the floor, between the reclining chairs in one of the quiet rooms. Not too bad, and benefitting from JC's idea of bringing blankets and pillows ( which we will ditch in Santander, along with my sweatshirt - hopefully its going to be warm from here on in). The night did indeed pass quietly - (no Royals on board).
On deck in the morning, with the Spanish coast in sight, - SAW WHALES! 5 or 6 came quite close to the ship and were blowing out high into the morning air. Amazing sight. I can see now why Claire Morse does this trip.
Docked in Santander around 1pm. Said goodbye to our new found cycling chums and immediately caught a passenger ferry to the other side of the inlet.
Cycled about 30 miles (relatively flat, with just one big climb) then stopped for the night at a coastal town called Argonas (with one of those squiggly things over the 'n').
28*C. Very nice.
The mountains are now well in sight. Tomorrow should be a tough ride over them and into Bilbao. (The Basques call it Bilbo, like in The Rings, and cross out the 'a' on the road signs).
Just found the pub. It has litre glasses!

Martyn If you need to cross the river in downtown "Bilbo" why not use the Bizkaia transporter bridge. Its the oldest one in the world built by some geezer connected to Eiffel, sort of a hanging gondola contraption. Just an idea.
