Wow. What a busy day. I was picked up at 8:15 in the morning and it has been non stop all day. Went on a Mexico tour with a tour company and an amazing guide named Alex. Alex was Mexican/Mayan and told us about the Mayan culture and civilisation. First we stopped at a Mayan shop where everything was authentic and handmade, very cool. They took a photo of me and put it on a bottle of 30% alcohol hahaa strong stuff (tasted like good old Sammy b). After the shop we went to Chichen Itza - what an amazing place. When I say we I mean the big family of Americans from Texas who I latched onto all day lol they were really cool people basically should have just adopted me for the day. Alex showed us around and read the Mayan symbols that were carved onto the rocks and he talked to us about astronomy (Yes I was loving life). We looked at the sun through a black/gold rock and went to look at the cenote where they use to throw the bodies they sacrificed. I was impressed with myself that I already knew some of the stuff and that I taught this to my class a few months ago. Yes then!
I took some really cool photos!! I should deffo just be a photographer instead of a teacher hahaha.
After a while we left Chichen Itza and went to a cenote - a sink hole. We had lunch and swam in the water with the catfish! I tried to take some cool photos but I'm not too sure about them.
Our last stop was a Mayan village where the Spanish took over and destroyed their pyramids and rebuilt them into houses and churches. You can see the old bricks from the pyramids across the village and we went inside the church. A really old lady outside the gardens looked like she was cursing everyone who didn't give her money.
I've really enjoyed today and have actually learnt so much! The Mayan, as I already knew, where a clever bunch of people. Perhaps I was Mayan in my previous life :D
Tomorrow I think I will relax and go and spend the day at the beach.
Not everyday adventure, somedays chill.
