Who would have thought that Laos was so beautiful. The first few days were spent on 4000 islands - an island on the Mekong river. This place was incredible. It had the most beautiful waterfalls and we spent the time cycling, swimming, tubing and dolphin watching at sunset! Tubing was interesting! We tuned for sunset and then got attacked by bugs and flies and freaked out trying to get back! We spent lots of time eating too! Probably tried every restaurant on the sunset side of the island. One night we had to cycle back from the other island in the pitch black in the rain with just our phone torch Hahaa so much fun.
The journey from 4000 islands was very long! We left at 11am and got to Thakhek at 11:30pm! We booked a nice bus but got a local bus that decided not to stop for lunch or dinner. When we said we wanted food we stopped and a crowd of Laos women crammed on the bus waving cremated whole chickens on a stick!!! Like are you serious! I am not eating that! Dinner was then a stop at the side of the road to pick up some meat on a skewer - no thanks! I settled with a cling bag filled with plain sticky rice with the addition of a big inside. Didn't eat hardly any of the rice - vom. I'm still on the no meat vibe. I didn't eat any meat all week until yesterday when I ordered a chicken sandwich but then I chucked all the chicken out. Hahaa . Veggie? No nandos? Hmmmmm?!
Yesterday we spent the day at Kong Lor caves cruising around in a kayak in the emeralds waters. Very nicee!
I'm now in the capital city Vientiane trying to plan my next week. Traveller life is hard Hahaa
Love ya!
