Took the bus to city center. Nuremberg was the unofficial capital of the Holy Roman Empire. A great trade center on the route from Italy to Northern Europe. The city is surrounded by a city wall. Walked through Handwerkerhof (craftsman's courtyard) lots of shops with handmade toys. Walked to St. Sebaldus Church and the Schoner Brunnen fountain. Strolling down Karolinen Strasse with it's many shops, new and old. In Hauptmarkt the city's main square where the famous Christkindlesmarket is held, we stopped to have dessert first, sorbet. Then onto Bratwursthausle where we had the local dish, rostbratwurt. Around the corner to the city museum - Stadtmuseum Fembohaus. Bought the ticket, started on the 4th floor marveling over a wooden model of city center. Many history pictures including ones of the Nazi Party, and the city before and after the bombing when over 90 percent of this city was destroyed. Up the hill to the Imperial Castle - Kaiserburg. The castle tour was worth the climb up the hill. Descending the hill was steep & Dangerous. Passed by Woffscher bau - city hall. Now for a cold drink at Bratwurst Roslein. We continued on the cobblestone streets to find a stand with Lebkuchen (spicy moist gingerbread). To end the day we dinned at Valzner Weiher a fish restaurant located on an island.
