Once upon time, it was indeed the peaceful city as its name, Dar es Salaam means. But the traffic volume and sheer number of people have put pay to that. Maybe in those embassy compounds they have that elusive peace. But having said that, it is an exciting and vibrant place that seems to embody the excitement of new possibilities and hope and fulfillment of potential.

Hooking up with our good friend Deo in this town was an absolute pleasure. He showed us a little of the other side of life that makes up Dar es Salaam.

We had seen the city from a train, on ferries and soon we would see the back of it on a bus to Arusha, capital of the northern safari circuit.
