Hi all
Having left Cape Town in our rear vision mirror on the 1st July, Jac and I are headed north with four fellow aussies and a couple of POMs. Many hours in the safari van later we have managed to establish that we have be fortunate to be allocated an awesome group of travelers from the travel gods (not just saying that as they are now my newest facebook friends or have far better photography skills them I).
Most days have been a reasonable 630 get up and on the road by 700 to travel to some unspellable destination.
Highlights of the trip thus far have included:
• meeting Sparky a campsite manager who we traded Kiwi/Aussie/SA sheep jokes with,
• Alice from England losing her underwear out the window of the truck after attempting to dry then whilst pounding along a desert highway.
• Malaria tablets that get you high at 430am and somehow can effect your ability to manage difficult tasks/have insight eg that you shouldn’t wander around camp grounds in just your thermals
• Massive dance session on a rock 300km for any point of significance though offered us that most spectacular sunset of the trip thus far.
• Tracking desert animals with Frans a traditional Namibian bushman
• Cathy the ridiculously poor impersonator of a chicken
• Nearly being lost wandering in the desert after getting lost headed to the toilet as a mist of Atlantic sea stray cut visibility to 2m.
After five days coming up through the South African north plains and across the various Namibian desert ending with 200km of sand we are in Swapkop. In Swapkop we have the chance to eat large amounts of burgers, do some washing, see some of the business end of the world cup, ride some quad bikes, attend our own thermal disco-tech party and then drag a few of us out to the reef the next day for some fishing.
Massive thanks for all the texts and a special thanks to Jac for not killing me last night after the fifth night in a row getting up at 430am.
Take care all and will blog again soon.
