Today we had our first morning safari. About five minutes after we left, we heard a report over the radio about a sighting of hunting dogs with food, specifically Thomson Gazelles. This is now day two of safari, and I am finally getting used to the change in time zone. Yesterday afternoon we jumped in landrover and saw elephants, baboons, hippos, zebras and giraffes. That was pretty cool. This morning we saw a cheetah and two cubs, staked out a leopard that we didn't ever see, and viewed a pack of wild dogs eat a gazelle. The airstrip, a short jeep ride away from the lodge, is essentially a wide dirt track for planes to land on. The lodge meanwhile doesn't look anything like shabbiness; our cottage ,which is basically a small house has its own small heated private pool, TV, (unused as yet) DVD player, zebra skins on the floor, two fireplaces, feather lampshades, and comfy furniture. We have now arrived in Sasakwa, and are currently sitting in the cottage after lunch, which was delicious. Flying from Nairobi to Tanzania didn't take long, although we had two stops on the way. Because they drop you off at the lodge, you need to stop at an actual airport earlier, so you can clear customs before entering Tanzania.
