We ended our short stay in Chiang Mai with a trek to the mountains. We were booked onto a 3 day trek (which I later swapped for the 2 day trek) and were put with a really lovely group, all of which were doing the 2 day trek.
The first day consisted of an uphill hike, which was pretty hardcore (for me) and put me off the 3day treck immediately! Yep it doesn't bode well for the inca trail at this stage of the game!! We eventually made it to the village, where we met the villagers and were treated to a feast for dinner (well almost..) Our Tour guide was a bit of a character. We reckon he must have been drugged up on opium (which is pretty much a normal thing for them to take) as he was bordering on hysteria the whole night, with contant hysterical laughter. He did keep us entertained with quite a few tricks though. The Leeds lot reading this will be pleased to know that Al and I introduced Magic Finger into the mix and have hopefully managed to spread it to countries far and wide now!
Day 2 of the treck consisted of (another) elephant ride, white water rafting and bamboo rafting before being taken home. My team won the rafting race - you will be pleased to know. Althouhg we didnt have quite so much luck with the bamboo rafting!
That night (my first without either Rach and Al since we started travelling!) the rest of our froup went out for what turned into quite a drunken night in Chiang Mai. Had lots of fun.
Off to Laos next...
