Welcome to Oz...
We are finally out of Asia and into the next stage in our travels. It took us 3 flights to get here, so the last couple of days seems to have been a blur of airports and uncomfortable plane seats with a child screaming directly behind me....always!!! Special mention has to be given to Singapore Airport, where we spent a couple of hours before catching our next flight. the place is absolutely awesome, with a pool, spa, gym, movie lounge not to mention an array of shops to rival any big American mall. It's the one time I've wished for a flight delay in order to spend more time enjoying the facilities. Sadly Quantas were extremely punctual.
We landed in cairns International Airport to rain. I was not impressed! Might as well be back in Londres. I sat in stunned amazment on the trip from the airport to the hostel lookign at all the 'real' shops and well maintained roads. After 3 months of market stalls and shacks it's all a bit too much.
Absolutely loving the hostel - it's like Leeds Student Union! It even has its own nightclub, not too disimilar from Stylus. To hear the baywatch them tune being blasted out as we walked in completely made my day too! Loving the cheese! It's very much like a holiday resort here with frequent calls on the loud speaker to remind us all that happy hour is still on and tell us which live bands are playing at the moment. Very 'Happy Campers'!
Rach and I had our first bottle of wine since travelling, as its incredibly hard to get hold of in Asia. Needsless to say it didnt take much to feel the effects. Looking forward to being able to get drunk on vino instead of beer from now on!
Not sure how long we are gonna stay in Cairns as the rubbish weather has meant we can't do the diving here. keen to move south anyway for a bit of sunshine! Will keep you posted as to our next port of call xx
Bit of an update......
Cairns got better and better when we learnt that if it's raining outside then the key is to just drink inside! Luckily Gilligans was well equiped with its own nightclub so it was all good.
Port Douglas
Did a day trip up to Port Douglas, which was lovely. Not much to tell unfortunately ans we just sunbathed the whole day.
