Mui Ne was supposed to be our stop for a few days hitting the beach but the weather said otherwise.
It was a deserted town! We arrived and went to find dinner but everywhere looked closed. After walking for a while we found a seafood restaurant with tanks full of lobster, crab and fish. It was as if all the staff were there to serve only us and they stood around talking and laughing (probably at us, that seems to be quite common. I think its joel, they like short westerners).
The beach was only there at low tide but was still quite nice, other than the amount of rubbish. Turns out the holiday season doesnt start until a months time.. I can see why. Saying that we managed a few hours in the morning on a sunbed, but then it rained, a lot.
We moved on from there and headed to Nha Trang, where we stayed in a nice hotel with a rooftop bar and restaurant! Nha Trang seems to be the beach party town of Viet Nam, it's pretty cool, even if it is full of Russians. We plan to come back here in a few days to look at getting PADI open water scuba diving certificate.
We booked ourselves a snorkel trip around some of the reefs in the area. These are out a 45min boat trip to a cluster of islands that are predominantly uninhabited.
The reef was good and the water clear with a range of fish, apparently Nha Trang has 350 different types of coral out of the 500 found globally. This is one of the reasons we want to get our dive certificate here as its a great site, also that its damn cheap in comparison with Australia.
Lunch was great as the crew supplied a lot of seafood and Vietnamese dishes, pretty much an all you can eat! We then moved on to another reef, 3 in total. This area of the world really shows you how bad water pollution and rubbish is, there was all sorts floating around. That and the abundance of small jellyfish, though they didnt seem to sting. Nha Trang is the place to come for a party vibe at night and great beaches or swimming in the day. It doesn't stop, one of the strangest sights is walking home early in the morning from a night out and seeing all the shops still open, nothing ever closes.
The surrounding landscape consists of mountains and islands, beautiful setting.
Currently on another bus (yay!) for 18 hours (yay!) to Hue.
Still waiting for decent WiFi, pictures to follow.
