Hello all! We haven't udated in a while so we have lots to tell!
Our last blog was on boxing day and re day after we left Thailand for Malaysia ad our visas where going to run out! Getting to Malaysia was a mission mini bus after mini bus after mini bus it took forever. But we made it eventually to Georgetown.
The next few days where just wondering around the town-museums,temples,historic building, the lot! Then one evening sammy got really I'll! It was so scary he was red and burning up and started shaking his temperature wet to 40c so the owner of the hostel drove us to the nearest clinic.
He had blood tests and lots of injections to get rid of the fever and medication through out the night thankfully he was fine the next day but we had to keep returning for more blood tests it turned out to be DENGUE FEVER!!!!!! From a stupid mosquito in Thailand.
So the next little while including near years we didn't do much as sammy had to get his rest incase his fever went up again.on new years eve we decided to go to pizza hut because we where starving! After we walked to the park just up from the hostel and watched the "concert"-it was dreadful!! They destroyed every song and when it was countdown time the big screen flew off as they didn't tie it on well enough.then hey had a really bodge job firework show all the malaysians loved it but it made us both feel home sick so we went back and went to sleep.
The next few days where good-julie the owners wife kept feeding us as she said we needed it! Which was good for us free food! So we stayed a few more days as we hadn't really done much due to sammy! LOL the dorm we where in was ok not great but there where hamsters and tortoise in thebathroom area-very weird but kept sammy entertained LOL also there was a creepy French man absolutly mental but he was quite entertaining to watch.the last few days in George town we visited the huge butterfly farm and we met two guys at the hostel beaky and some Irish man so was quite nice just chatting to English speaking travelers as they are normally german or Swedish so don't understand us.
We left Georgetown as there was nothing else for us to do,and went down to pangkor as the other side of Malaysia has a monsoon.
Pangkor such a big disapointment as Thailand has far better beaches and nicer people the malaysians have edited tv so as soon as they see westeners they stare not only do they stare but the follow girls around the beach.
However pangkor has lots of wildlife everywhere there are hornbils and monkeys everywhere you look and the island is mainly a jungle we went for a walk the other day and visited tortoise bay where the leatherback turtles go to lay there eggs-unfortuntly we didn't see any as they are very rare, but we did see where the little baby turtles come out.
Then a walked some more and went up a few view points which where not good as the trees as had not been cut.on our way back we had a very scary encounter with stray/wild dogs! We where walking Along and saw a dog-as you do because they are everywhere so we kept walking but then we heard lots of growling from the jungle and saw about 10+ dogs all growling at us-so we ran!! We have never ran so fast in our lives luckily it was down hill so we out ran the chasing dogs scared us s**tless! So from now on we are hireing out bicecles so it doesn't happen again as we don't fancy getting mauled by dogs, the last few days we have just been on the beach and went down into the town and saw all the smelly fish! Johns heaven as they had millions of anchovies everywhere.
We think we might stay on this island as we don't really want to go to any of the cities as we are not really liking Malaysia truelly Asia???
We should be getting down to Singapore in the next week or so to go to the zoo! LOL an to cath the plane to australia it will be so nice to not have a language barrier as we are going a little crazy now at the moment we are stayig in a lovely place,(the only nice place in Malaysia) in a little hut nothing special but compared to the dorm in Georgetown it's great as we got major bed bug bites! (they are itchier the mozzy bites)
And the lady here is lovely-a little crazy but I think everyone on this island is including the dogs!
Speak soon lots love Rachel and sammy xxxxxxxxxxxx
