So we arrived to Singapore from Melaka to the news that we werent booked into our nice hotel with hot showers that we had all been looking forward to. For some reason Intrepid thought we were booked in but the hotel had no record of it. Our tour guide Mike was under pressure now as we were all panicking that we would have to go into scabby hostels on our last night. We went and had some lunch whilst Mike sorted it out. Sam tried Dim Sum as she had never tried it before and thought she would give it a go... never again. It was very odd and not that nice! As it was the F1 aswell we were worried that we wouldnt be able to get any accomodation at such short notice but luck was on our side as the hotel just one down had 8 spare rooms...... result, hot showers for everyone.
That evening Sam and Vicky went on a hostel hunt as we had an extra 3 nights in Singapore and no where to stay! At first we were really disheartened as everywhere was booked up but luckily we found a small Backpacker Inn down Mosque Street that included 5 bunk beds in the main room and a side room with 2 bunk beds in. You couldnt swing a cat in the whole place but it was ok for 8 quid a night. It was mixed dorms but we didnt care as they all seemed to keep themselves to themselves and the management were really good so that made us feel fine about leaving our stuff. We were so relieved to have got a place to sleep for the next 3 nights that we treated ourselves to a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel which was the place where the cocktail was founded. We had to get the MRT there and as we got off we could here the F1 cars racing round the track. We were so close it was really exciting. All that you could see was the tops of the cars whizzing past. It was a real buzz!!!
Day1: This day was spent saying goodbye to members of the group that were going their separate ways and seeing more of the world! It was sad to say goodbye to them but some we would be meeting in Cairns anyway when we get there which will be nice. In the afternoon we all met up and had a little picnic on a patch of grass and said goodbye. Vicky, Emma and Sam went back to our place we were staying and chilled out. We were going to go to the night safari but changed our mind and went out to dinner instead. On the way back this drunk guy in the bar below our dorm bought us a jug of Tiger Beer so we drank it but all felt slightly uncomfortable so went to bed!! It was odd because at the Inn at night time there is hardly anyone around so when we go to bed we are the only ones there but then in the morning the room is filled and they are all sleep until like 5 pm. We think they work nights and they live there for a few weeks and then go home to their countries... very strange! Oh, and there was a chronic snorer in the dorm... sounded like a horse and it was very annoying.
Day 2: Emma was leaving today so we just went and got a bit of lunch with her and did a bit of shopping and said our goodbyes. It was a bit sad as we have been travelling with her for about 3 weeks and have got on really well. Vicky and Sam decided to get dressed up in the evening and hit the beer again in the bar underneath our dorm. They were having a kareoke session so we decided to have a bit of a sing ourselves and rocked Leona Lewis! We then decided to head into the town and see what it was like but we didnt really like it so came home, Vicky got corn on the cob at bout 3 am, and just crashed out.
Day 3: We spent most of the day in bed and after finally getting up we went and got subway for lunch and did a bit more shopping. There wasnt alot to do in Singapore Chinatown so we were happy just to chill out and take it easy. The next day we had the get the flilght to Cairns so got a few last things and chilled out.
Day 4: We had to be up and out of the Backpackers Inn by 1:00pm at the latest but we were allowed to leave our bags until later so we had some lunch at subway (again) and just wandered around. We were going to be getting the MRT (which is their underground system) to the airport so checked out the route. We had a quick game of pool in the bar downstairs, said goodbye to all the lovely staff and made our way to the MRT staion at 5:00pm to ensure that we had plenty of time to get to the airport just incase we came across any problems. The MRT was relatively busy and all the seats were taken so we had to stand most of the way. It wasnt that hard to get around. Its a really easy mode of transport and we managed to get to the airport without any major hicups apart from when Sam swung her bag off her shoulder and got her necklace caught and about 200 beads went flying!! Ooops, and Sam really liked that necklace! We got to the airport at about 6:30 and didnt need to check in until 8:00 so we had some time to mooch around and have some food. Check in went smoothly apart from Vicky's liquids were too much in her hand carry so we had to sort out a 2nd bag of luggage that she could put in the hold so she didnt have to throw them away. We had a walk around the airport and boarded the plane at around 9:45 but the plane was delayed and we weren't up in the air until 11:00pm. We didnt mind though as we were going to OZ...
