We arrived in Brisneyland at about 3:00pm and the Oz driver got us checked into Base for the night as everywhere else was full. The hostel was awful and again very expensive. We had been trying desperatly to get into a $17 a night hostel in Upper Roma Street but its so popular it was booked up. We were going to check out of Base in the morning and chance it to see if we got the room.
We both felt like we were back in Bangkok. Everyone is Brisbane seemed to be in a rush and the pavements wete packed with people. It was a bit daunting as we have been in little sea side towns for ages and being put smack bang in the middle of a busy city was a bit like...argh!!! In the afternoon we just wandered around the city and decided that we were going to drink tonight and go out. We still had some goon left over from Rainbow Beach that we needed to use up. We bought lemonade to go with it and after getting ready proceeded to the roof top for a bit of pre clubbing drinking. We met some English, Scottish and Irish guys up there and we all played drinking games until they all started to get a bit annoying so we decided to head down to the club next to Base called Down Under.
What a night. It was madness!!! Music was good and we ended up bumping into a guy called Chris who was in our room in Hervey Bay which was cool! In the morning tho we had to check out of Base by 10am and we were both feeling a tad delicate. I phoned Cloud 9, the hostel with the $17 room and YES! we got in. We caught a taxi to the hostel as it is quiet a way from the town but for $17 we dont mind walking any other time. Just not with 10,000 bags of luggage! The room at Cloud 9 was very basic. No fan so it was absolutly roasting and it was really cramped. Oh well!
For the rest of the day we chilled out and went and got some lunch and wandered around the town. We planned to go and see Suzanne and Catriona, 2 girls from our Bangkok trip who are living in Brissy and working for a year as nurses. They live just up from the hostel which was lucky so at 7:00pm we just walked up to meet them. We went out for a few drinks in an Irish pub but Vicky and I were really tired so called it a night and went back to the hostel. We agreed to meet them at 12:00 the next afternoon so we could go to the Sunday Market in Southbank. There were loads of stalls selling all sorts of things and there was a street performer aswell who was good to watch. In the eve we went round Catriona and Suzannes flat and had pizza and watched TV which was nice as we hadnt sat down and chilled infront of a TV for nearly 3 months!
The next day we were leaving on the Oz bus to Surfers Paradise at 1:30 so in the morning we packed up and checked out and met the girls for coffee and then boarded the bus for Surfers..
