Well here I am, the last 5 days of my 6 month adventure! After 20 hours of flights and very little sleep I arrived in JFK airport feeling slightly dazed and not feeling overly warm!

Thankfully Darren had agreed to not only time his trip to NY to coincide with mine but he even came to the airport to show me the way to the hotel! After dumping my bags at the hotel we decided to head straight out for dinner before I fell asleep. As Darren had been here a few days already he knew the good bars/restaurants so we went to the Heartlands Brewery pub. After a few beers and a good sized portion of a meal I was done for and had to get some sleep.

On Wednesday we went out to explore the sights of New York City. We started the day with breakfast and I went for a good helping of pancakes and maple syrup, washed down with a pint of coffee! Damn good they were too! We walked around central park and it was much bigger than I imagined it would be. I quite liked that the trees didn't have any leaves on, made it look really impressive. We then caught the subway down to catch a boat over to the Statue of Liberty. Although the weather wasn't amazing, she's still bloody impressive, especially close up!

The next day we had a tour of the Rockefeller center already booked so we headed for that in the morning. You get a bit on the history down the bottom but soon enough you're hurtling up to the top of the rock and the views are amazing. Again the weather wasn't 100% but you could see the majority of the empire state building that wasn't covered in clouds! Darren had heard about an old elevated rail line that had been converted into city gardens, so we went for a wander along there, it was quite surreal and really nice to get away from the craziness of the city for a while. We also went for a walk over brooklyn bridge, the wind and rain was getting quite heavy so we headed back to the hotel, picking up a few beers on the way.

For our last full day we went downtown and found an amazing restaurant that was famous for it's roast beef sandwiches. What came out didn't look overly filling but the amount of roast beef they squeezed in meant we were both full by the end. They also dunk the whole sandwich in gravy making it taste amazing! We had a few beers in one of the many Irish bars around the area and even wangled our first drink "on the house" - touch!

Then it was the last day of my travels - we were catching our flight at 7pm so we went for a look around the Natural History museum before lunch and then soon enough it was time to start heading towards the airport. After a slight misunderstanding as to which terminal we were supposed to be going to, we were checked in and off to the bar. At $10 a drink they weren't cheap, but they were my last 2 pints in a foreign country for a little while...
