From Ko Tao we caught the night ferry back to Surat Thani from which we would head on to Krabi. The night ferry was an interesting experience. We were issued with a bed number upon boarding the boat, and on finding our small sleeping space we were hoping that the boat wouldn't be fully booked for the 8 hour journey. It was packed!! We had about half a metre of space to lie in with our feet dangling off the end. We were also at the toilet end of the boat which meant we constantly had people knocking into us as they crawled through the cabin which was under 1.5 metres high. One lady even army rolled over Nikki's bandaged foot which wasn't much appreciated! That said, it was a pretty good way to travel to our next destination as we weren't paying a nights' accommodation and we were able to get a bit of sleep and not miss out on too much daytime!
On arriving in Krabi Town the first thing we saw were these huge traffic lights that were statues of gorillas and other things holding on to the lights. Not sure why they are like that but it was strange! We caught a bus straight out from the town to the beach 'Ao Nang'. It was a nice place and we got a great room there for 2 nights for only 300baht ($12AUD) a night. The room even had a TV and fridge which meant we could chill out and allow Nikki's foot a bit of time to recover. It pretty much rained for most of the time we were in Krabi so we didn't do a whole lot except spend way too much money at an Irish pub. Because it was raining and I'm not meant to get my foot wet I wrapped a plastic bag around it. Sam found this hilarious, especially when we were riding around on the scooter!
There's a lot of beautiful scenery in Krabi with amazing cliffs at either end of the beach. One afternoon we caught a long tail boat around to Railey which isn't accessible by road. To get to the long tail boat we had to walk through water so Sam was kind enough to carry me like a baby to the boat so my foot wouldn't get wet! I think all the other girls were wondering why their men weren't doing the same!!
Railey was quite nice but pretty much the same as Krabi with some cliffs at either end of the beach as well as some in the middle. Sammy did some small mountain climbing to get from one side of the beach to the other too. Apart from that it was a lot of movie watching, book reading and general R and R which was nice and good for Nikki's foot before heading off to the much anticipated Phi Phi islands.
