We went to pick up the campervan from the airport, as that's where all the car pick-ups were in New Zealand, only to find that the jucy rental station was a few blocks down from our hostel on the tram! So we took te bus back to town, which was about a two hour round trip so we could have lunch at the airport. We walked to the correct location from the bus stop only to find that we didn't actually have a jucy van!! Even though we received a quite and gae all of our bank detials, it seems that you can't have a van for less than 2 weeks and they didn't have any spare anyway! Sam received an e-mail saying this, which he read at the rental place, but as we thought we'd already paid for it and didn't see anything anywhere on the website saying about the 2 weeks min. rental we didn't even think to check. Luckily enough they had a spare campervan so we took that one. I'm not old enough to drive most rentals over here so Sam took the wheel and said it was cool because it drove like a truck!
We headed down to the Great Ocean Road and had a look at the twelve apostles and the arch and all the other rocks-the first day was a little grey but the rest of the time the weather was quite good for us-it rained heavily one night and day but the rest of the time it was quite sunny. The van was really comfy to sleep in - It was about the same size as a normal bed! We stayed in camp sites for the Ocean Road trip. They weer all very ncie and most of them had swimming pools and air pillows, which are just massive trampolines!
From the ocean road we headed up to Newcastle to stay with mym dad's cousin-we've never met them before but they were so friendly and welcoming and really fu to stay with, and it was so nice to meet the family and see my Auntie Jean again. Belinda took us to a wildlife park so we could see koalas again-but this time they were fighting and running around like dogs-Sam said it might be koala fight club! We saw some bigger Kangaroos too but they were bit lazier. We went shopping too and had a little look around the beaches and the obelisk. I think we might try and get another campervan and then drive up to Newcastle for Christmas, thern come down and camp out at Menley beach to watch the fireworks from the harbour for New Year's eve.
At the moment we're staying at the Sydney Central YHA-it's got a rooftop pool and a travel agency-definitely a good one to stay at! 'm looking forward to Christmas now as we both had such a good time in Newcastle.
