Am still playing catch up with my blog entries before I leave Africa. I was in Malawi for about five days. We spent the majority at Kandy beach which is a really nice little town on Lake Malawi.
Lake Malawi has such strong waves and is so big that it actually feels and looks like the sea, other than the lack of salt water. Apparently some parts of it have bilharzia, but the more open areas are ok. Anyway, I swam in it quite a lot as it was so hot when we were there that I really needed to.
I had a fantastic day horseriding with some of the other girls from my tour. The local riding stables had ex-polo ponies that were extremely highly strung and temperamental. My horse was called Glen! However, the boring name belied his true nature as a devil horse!
He spent the whole three hours trying to either buck me off whilst cantering, biting and kicking other horses and on one occasion lay on the ground and rolled onto his side and kicked his hooves in the air whilst wriggling in the dirt. I managed to jump off just in time to prevent him from breaking my legs, but suffice to say it was not exactly a relaxing ride.
Nevertheless I had great fun, especially when we took the horses bareback into the lake.
