Hello!!
Seems like ages since we last blogged, and i dont think theres too much to report!! we reached Krabi after a long day of travelling on ferry and then bus, and found the hotel we decided to book online to save us any hassel! First time this trip we were greeted by a porter who took our bags to our rooms!! wasnt a great hotel but nice compared to some of the places weve stopped! Wasnt much to see in Krabi town, so we went and got some food and a beer, had a walk about and grabbed an earlyish night!
The next morning we were up early to get yet another ferry which took us over to Koh Lanta, we had booked three nights in a hostel which had been recommended and instantly made it 4 nights upon arrival! our room was the best weve had, and the hostel, more of a hotel really, had an eternity pool right on the beach!!
we spent the rest of the day in and around the pool/beach, and then had a few drinks on the beach, there was a very laid back vibe on Lanta, in the evenings all the bars lining the beach light candles and lanterns and everyone seems to just lay back and enjoy a few cocktails! We did make the mistake that night when having dinner of asking the chef to have our noodles very hot....they were VERY hot and we both struggled to get it down and then spent 20minutes nursing our burning lips...but it was very good noodles, just a tad too spicy!!
the second day, we spent the morning by the pool and then rented a scooter to see the rest of the island, went to the old town, and scooted around the whole of the island taking in some beautiful sights, and what felt like real thailand for the first time! we went through a couple of small villages and all the kids were running out and shouting hello which was nice! gave them a quick toot toot and off we scooted! That evening we did what seemed was right, grabbed a beer and took in the stars!!
on our third day we took the scooter out for a morning drive and went and explored some of the other beaches we hadnt seen yet, and were going to go to the national park, but the scooter we were on was struggling with some of the hills and we came across one hill we didnt think it would manage so turned back, there were already two other scooters being pushed up it!! we spent the afternoon and evening in the pool, and then went back to the place with the hot noodles, this time we werent asked how hot we wanted them so hoped it would just come out medium...but he had obviously remembered us and they came out hot hot hot again, much to the chefs amusement afterwards!! We then decided we fancied getting a bit drunk so headed to a beach party on the next beach down...but this turned out to be as quiet as the other bars with just a few couples sitting under the stars, so we had a cheap bucket and chilled!!
our final day we decided to make the most of the pool while we had it, and i think we were in and around the pool all day, except for a trip to the bookshop to swap the books we were done with and pick up some more. In the evening we went back to our noodle joint again, but this time we stated we definately wanted it medium this time, which again amused the chef, and they were still pretty hot, but only meant 5mins stinging on the lips after! We finished off with a few drinks on the beach and an early night as we had an early start the next day!!
We got picked up from our hostel at 7am and taken to the ferry port and took the ferry too Koh Phi Phi where we have been for about 4 days now!! Phi Phi pronounced Pee Pee, but would be more fitting if it was Poo Poo after the trouble weve had!!. The journey was fine except i had the urge to go to the loo (a number 2) from the moment we got picked up untill about 11:30am when we checked in, i was in agony most the journey holding it, and the duration after whilst we found a hostel and waited for the room to be cleaned!! but i finally got rid of my trouble and we started exploring the island, which is by far the most beautifull place we have been yet, the photos dont do it justice!! theres no roads here, and the main town is like a big market, but the beaches are amazing!! its far busier here, and in the evenings you could be in crete, with bars pumping out load music, touts everywhere handing out flyers with drinks offers, and westerners everywhere, but its been nice being somewhere abit livier after chilling for the most of the last few weeks!
The first night we headed out and got pretty smashed, went to a bar were they have a mai thai ring, and anyone can get in and fight for a free bucket, i didnt get up but there were some pretty funny fights, but sadly no KO's, though one girls gave another girl such a hiding they ended it after about a minute, otherwise im sure we would have seen our first KO. The best fight though was between two thai children, one boy one girl, cant have been any older than 3!! they both ran around the ring for about 15mins getting the crowd going and every now and then they just started throwing punches and the ref had to pull them apart! Then the bell went, the girl went running forward but was looking at something outside the ring, the boy charged in and smashed her straight in the face with both fists, sending her flying, and prompting her to start wailing and they ended the fight...i guess this was a KO!! Had everyone in the crowd in histerics, was cruel to laugh but hard not to!!
we spent the next day in bed and on the beach, lounging around with our hangovers and had a slightly quiter night as we had booked in for snorkelling the next day!! Lucky we didnt drink as when we headed out on the boat i was feeling rather sea sick and a hangover wouldnt have helped!! We both had our first upset stomachs sinc weve been gone and that is down to good old alcohol!!!
The snorkelling day was truely special, we set off at 9:30 and came back around 6pm, stopping off for 7 snorkelling spots, spent an hour on Maya bay, which is where they filmed the beach, and stopped on a couple of other beaches around the island which were equally impressive!! But the most impressive part was the actual snorkelling, the reef around phi phi is amazing and the amount of fishes an other creatures suprised us both, real shame we didnt have an underwater camera!! After we got back i wasnt feeling too great, a day at sea and being in the sun all day took its toll and after dinner i had to go to bed!!
That leaves today, we have just had a beach day and been into town for some shopping, and tonight we'll be heading out for a few drinks but nothing too hectic as got an early ferry tomorrow taking us to Phuket!! We arent sure where we are staying quite yet but we'll definately be spending atleast one night in Patong to take in some ping pong shows and the likes!! When in Rome and all that!!
Anyway internet is mega expensive here, and ive ranted on far too long!! So good bye for now!!
